Paint Chip Repair Tip

No matter how careful you are, it's bound to happen. so here's how to fix it. To make sure you get the right color paint, stop by your local dealer and tell them the make, model, and color of your car, and they'll match it all up for you. Once you've got the right color, follow the instructions below.

1) Take isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) on a q-tip and dab it in the rock chip a few times.

2) Use a clean towel to dry the chip.

3) Take a match out of a match book. Use the opposite end of the head. Dab this in touch-up paint. (Do not thin out touch-up paint.) Very carefully, dab a very, very minute amount in the chip. Do not get any paint anywhere other then the chip depression. The trick here is not to try to fix the chip in one application. Do this every day until the paint in the chip is even with the rest of the paint surface.

If you do this correctly, you will hardly notice the chip repair. You can compound the repair by hand very gently to even-out the chip repair.

Remember have patience. Don't try to touch-up the chip all at once. It's a gradual building up of the paint, that's the trick.

Color Cure Usage Tips

Wash hands after use immediately with soap and water. If the polish is difficult to get off around fingernails, use a soft bristle brush to scrub around these areas.

Color Cure works on a wide range of colors. The Color Cure does not have to be close in to the vehicle color. Black Color Cure can be used on charcoal gray, dark silver or pewter metallic. Silver Color Cure is too light for these colors. If the vehicle is teal or a form of blue-green, use the color you feel is appropriate. Some paint colors are more on the green side, while others favor the blue side.

Always use the ChipStik first to fill in stone chips or scratches. You may not be able to find them if the wax is applied first. For best results, apply ChipStik when the surface is warm to the touch.

If your vehicle has a mica containing finish which changes color depending on the viewing angle or time of day, choose a Color Cure shade that is close to the darkest color that can be seen in the paint.

Never use a contrasting Color Cure shade on the vehicles paint. Using Black on a white car will make all of the scratches or imperfections look black. The product can not be used to change the original color of the car.

Sponge applicators work best for applying the product. Soft cotton cloth works best for buffing the finish.

Use ChipStik periodically to fill in chips as soon as they occur to prevent future corrosion to painted metal.

Use ChipStick around the house. ChipStik works well on wrought iron furniture or other outdoor furniture or painted metals.

EDIT: Turtle Wax has recently updated the name of this product from "Color Cure" to "Color Magic"

and make sure you always wash your car BY HAND right after waxing, it helps set the shine, and takes off all the excese grease from the wax.

....and NEVER use car washes from the gas stations, thell just eat ur wax off with the high pressure jets

so you wash your car right before AND right after waxing????

so how about just using the brush in the touch up paint rather than a match stick?

These are good tips for chips that i used before reading this article...but it's right on! When i bought my celi (used) it was near perfect except for a HUGE chip, the size of a dime on the driver's door down to the bare betal that was starting to rust a little. I just built up the paint a coat at a time...and after about 6 applications (this was a big ass chip) you can't really tell except for that it's not really glossy like the rest of it...
